Burdett, New York is a quaint village located in the Finger Lakes region of the state. The Village of Burdett is one of the communities located within the larger Town of Hector, in the northeastern corner of the Schuyler County. As of the 2000 census, Burdett reported a total population of 357 people, with 4,854 in Hector.

Burdett is slightly west of Seneca Lake. The depth of the lake at 632 feet keeps the temperature from dropping below freezing in the winter months and in turn, acts as a warming agent for the surrounding areas. In the summer, the lake helps to keep the surrounding areas cooler. Seneca Lake creates its own microclimate that ensures a favorable environment for growing grapes. The Seneca Lake Wine Trail consists of forty-two unique wineries situated around the perimeter of the lake. Visitors to the lake enjoy swimming, sailing, kayaking and have access to some of the finest fishing opportunities in NY State.

Burdett is a peaceful farming town with an abundance of horse trails, deciduous forestland and several grape vineyards. Burdett is three miles northeast of Watkins Glen, home of the famous Watkins Glen International speedway. Sprinkled throughout this beautiful region are cliffs, gorges, waterfalls and stunning rock formations. Hiking, biking and skiing are some of the activities in Finger Lakes National Forest.

There are several excellent higher learning institutes within a small distance of Burdett. Ithaca is a short drive to the west. Ithaca College is a private college offering various graduate and undergraduate degrees and Cornell University, also in Ithaca, is one of the most educationally diverse universities in the Ivy League. Elmira and Corning are a reasonable distance to the south. Elmira College is a private, liberal arts college and Corning Community College has a 550-acre campus as well as several off-site locations to serve the community and surrounding counties.
