The community was named for Charlotte Sophia, duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Mecklenburg sits at the
crossroads of Routes 228 and 79. This tiny hamlet is accessible from Interstates 81 and 86, each being
approximately 40 miles away.
Watkins Glen, as the county seat
of Schuyler County, hosts the county government offices. The Schuyler County Courthouse is located
in Watkins Glen at 105 9th Street.
The
