Prattsburgh, New York

Prattsburgh, New York, in northern Steuben County, was originally formed from the Town of Pulteney in 1813. Prattsburgh is named in honor of an early settler Joel Pratt, who arrived in the area in 1799. From one lone settler, Prattsburgh has grown to a town of 2,064 in 2000 (U.S. Census Bureau). The Prattsburgh Historical Society is dedicated to preserving Prattsburgh's past from the earliest days.

Prattsburgh, NY is surrounded by other small communities; Prattsburgh is within only three miles of Italy, Wheeler, Naples, Pulteney, Cohocton, and Avoca. A trip to the Steuben County Courts in Bath is a bit farther. Bath is 13 miles south of Prattsburgh. The County Courts are located at 3 East Pulteney Square, Bath, New York. Courts at this location include County Court, Family Court and the Supreme Court Appellate Division.

Watkins Glen State Park in nearby Schuyler County and many small parks in Prattsburgh provide outdoor recreation year-round.

The Prattsburgh Central School District is consistently ranked as one of the top school districts in the United States by US News and World Report. Nearby higher education includes Corning Community College, in downtown Corning. The college is a part of the State University of New York.
