Schuyler County,
New
York is located at the
south end of Seneca
Lake in the heart of the renowned Finger
Lakes Region. Schuyler County was named in
honor of Philip
John Schuyler, who was a general with a
pivotal role in the French and Indian War.
This rural community is comprised of eight towns
and four villages, with Watkins
Glen serving as the county seat. The Census 2000
reported a population of 19,224 residents;
however, the area boasts a seasonal population of over
1.5 million.
Seneca
Lake is the largest of the eleven Finger
Lakes and is home to forty-two unique wineries along
the Seneca
Lake Wine Trail. NY
State is the third largest wine region in the
United States. Other stunning lakes in the area
are Waneta
Lake, Lamoka Lake and Cayuga Lake. Residents and
visitors alike enjoy sailing, kayaking, swimming and
some of the best fishing
in New York State year round. Schuyler County is
also home to the Watkins
Glen State Park Gorge, Watkins
Glen International Speedway and several sites
on the National
Register of Historic Places.
Schuyler County is well balanced with a
thriving economic base of agriculture, tourism, retail
and manufacturing industries. Some of
the companies that currently call Schuyler County home
are Cargill
Salt, US
Salt, and BMS
Manufacturing Company, all in Watkins Glen, and Shepard
Niles in Montour
Falls. The Schuyler
County Partnership for Economic Development Agency is
an excellent resource for the creation of new
businesses or expansion of established businesses.
Various economic incentives are in place to
attract new business and encourage growth in the
industry.
SUNY
Binghamton, Ithaca
College and Cornell
University in Ithaca are three of the
outstanding higher learning facilities to choose from in
the area. These institutions help serve the
Schuyler area by providing trained and educated citizens who
are fully prepared for the modern work force.
Schuyler County, NY offers two excellent school
districts for K-12th grade students. The Watkins
Glen School District is located in Watkins Glen
and the Odessa-Montour
School District in Odessa. Both districts are
committed to providing students with the tools
necessary to enable them to reach their full
potential.
Expressways that provide excellent interstate access enclose
all of NY's Finger Lakes Region, including Schuyler
County. The greatest portion of the county
can be found within a quadrangle of the cities of Syracuse,
Rochester, Corning
and Binghamton.

Hancock International Airport and Rochester
International Airport are the nearest
major airports. The Elmira-Corning
Regional Airport and Ithaca-Tompkins
Regional Airport are smaller, but are only a
short distance away from anywhere in the County.
