Independent Medical Exam: A medical exam
performed by an independent physician. It includes a
brief review of the patient history and treatment to

purpose of the examination is to assist the
physician in making a medical determination as to
causation, current physical impairment, and the
necessity of current and future treatment.
Injectors: Locomotive boiler water feed
apparatus. Water in the boiler is consumed as steam
is generated and it is essential that the water is
replaced quickly to allow steam production to be
maintained and to prevent too low a water level
causing a collapse of the firebox crown.
Interlocutory Order: Temporary order issued
during the course of litigation. Typically cannot be
appealed because it is not final.
Interrogatories: Part of the pre-trial

the trial.

visual and instrument flight, and crew performance.
Instrustrument Examiner: An aviator qualified
to give instrument flight examinations and conduct
instrument flight training.
Intentional Infliction Of Emotionaldistress:
Intentionally causing severe emotional distress by
extreme or outrageous conduct.
Intentional Tort: An intentional tort exists
only when an employee is injured as a result of a
deliberate act of the employer and the employer
specifically intended an injury. An employer is
deemed to have intended to injure if the employer
had actual knowledge that an injury was certain to
occur and willfully disregarded that knowledge.
Intercoastal: Domestic shipping routes
serving more than one coast. Water service between
two coasts; in the U.S., this usually refers to
water service between the Atlantic and Pacific or
Gulf Coasts.
Interrogation: A request for data.
Interrogatories: A written set of questions
sent from one party to the other during the
discovery process.
